Transfer News: Chelsea make enquiry for Lucas Gourna-Douath

According to transfer news from RMC Sport (h/t Express), Chelsea have asked about information on French midfield prodigy Lucas Gourna-Douath who plays for Saint-Etienne.

The 17-year-old prodigy spent time at the academies of AS Lieusaint, US Sénart-Moissy, US Torcy PVM before moving to the Saint-Etienne youth system in 2018. Having spent eighteen months in the youth ranks, Gourna-Douath broke into the reserve team last year before making his first-team debut in the 2020/21 campaign.

Not only did he just make his debut, but the young midfielder also went on to become a regular in the side, as he went on to feature 30 times in Ligue 1, making quite an impact in the defensive midfield role.

And, it seems like the teenage sensation’s breakout campaign has attracted the interest of several top clubs in Europe including Chelsea. Indeed, as per the aforementioned report, the Blues have asked for information on Gourna-Douath, along with the likes of Borussia Dortmund as well as Bayer Leverkusen.

Likened to Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba, Gourna-Douath has shown a lot of potential and can be a top-notch signing for Chelsea with an eye on the future.

The west Londoners have a solid midfield unit as it is, but with Jorginho touching 30 and N’Golo Kante in his thirties, signing someone like the Saint-Etienne ace to partner him with Billy Gilmour, in the long run, would be brilliant for the Blues.
