Transfer News: Chelsea ‘blocking’ loan move for Callum Hudson-Odoi

Fulham face competition from Nottingham Forest and Everton for Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Transfer News: Chelsea block exit for Callum Hudson-Odoi

According to transfer news from Sky Germany (h/t Metro), Chelsea are blocking an exit for Callum Hudson-Odoi. The academy graduate was said to be close to securing a loan move to Borussia Dortmund but the Blues are blocking that move to keep him at the club.

There was a lot of excitement when Hudson-Odoi was pushed into the first team under Maurizio Sarri. He was, after all, one of the few academy stars to make his way through to the first team. The winger was also impressive under Frank Lampard during his spell as manager but things have gone a bit off track since then.

Under the management of Tuchel, Hudson-Odoi has seen game time trickle down to droplets. Then there has been the tactical rejig which has left the side without wingers. The English winger has had to try out his luck as a wing-back but he is not a first-choice in that position. That has seen his future come into question.

It looked like Borussia Dortmund was about to rescue him albeit on loan. Interest was made firm over the last few days and it had emerged that personal terms were also agreed upon. However, Chelsea have blocked any such exit as they are still waiting on some more arrivals. Thomas Tuchel felt that a loan move would have caused problems for Chelsea.

It’s not to say that Chelsea don’t have enough depth. On the contrary, the Blues have a stacked first team that is backed up in every position. Hudson-Odoi is clearly a squad player at this time when he should be getting regular game time. He is at an age where he needs those regular minutes to keep up his development. Denying him a loan to Dortmund might not be the best idea.
