According to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Express], Chelsea will not make a transfer offer for Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane.
The report mentions that the Blues had a ‘long-standing interest’ in the Spurs striker. But with Manchester City in front of the queue for signing him, Chelsea are uninterested in a bidding war with the Premier League champions.
Kane is looking like he will get a move this summer after the Englishman failed to report for training at Hotspur Way on Monday. A move to City seems to be the priority for the 28-year-old.
Kane, who won the Golden Boot in the Premier League last year, is undoubtedly one of the world’s top strikers right now. Along with the Englishman, Chelsea have also kept tabs on Romelu Lukau and Erling Haaland this summer
The Borussia Dortmund striker, however, may only leave Signal Iduna Park next summer, once his £68million release clause becomes active. As for the Inter Milan hitman, Lukaku seems to be the one Chelsea are after currently.
The report then goes on to claim that if Thomas Tuchel signs Lukaku this summer, it is highly likely that it would be cheaper than what they would have had to pay for Kane.
Chelsea could do with a striker to compete with Timo Werner. Olivier Giroud will not be at Stamford Bridge next season and Tammy Abraham has been constantly linked with a move away from the club this summer.
Kane potentially choosing to join the Citizens would not be such a big blow for Chelsea fans if they see their team sign Lukaku. But only time will tell where the two goal machines will end up at once we cross deadline day.
