“It was also my fault”- Tuchel shoulders responsibility for Chelsea star’s ‘unhappy’ situation

Thomas Tuchel accepts responsibility for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham wanting more minutes

Speaking ahead of the UEFA Super Cup encounter between Chelsea and Villarreal (h/t Express), Thomas Tuchel refused to provide a transfer update on Tammy Abraham, but went on to empathize with his situation.

The 23-year-old English striker is linked with a move to join Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma. And Chelsea’s German manager was asked to address the speculations before the showpiece event at Windsor Park.

Tuchel dodged the question, which came as little surprise considering managers rarely want to risk jeopardizing things by prematurely speaking about a deal. However, he made a telling admission regarding Abraham’s unhappiness at Chelsea.

“Unfortunately not [no clarity]. I will not comment on the situation. He did some good preparation matches, he was clearly not happy with the last half a year and maybe he has reason not to be. Maybe it was also my fault not to push him or trust him, I can absolutely understand that he wants more minutes.”

Tuchel accepts blame

This is something that Chelsea fans would have already known even if Tuchel never went on to address it. The former PSG and Borussia Dortmund boss ostracized Abraham from his matchday squads on several occasions.

Fans knew the Englishman’s future at Stamford Bridge was dangling by a thread when he was left out of the squads altogether in the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League finals.

The Blues are set to welcome Romelu Lukaku for the second time in the last decade after agreeing on a mammoth £97.5million transfer fee with Inter Milan. That will undoubtedly limit Abraham’s playing time even further.

More Chelsea News:

You don’t really pay that much money for a 28-year-old striker in the peak of his powers to come and warm the benches. And as for Abraham, a Stamford Bridge exit seems like the right course of action for his career.
