According to Metro, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has sent a title challenge to his team after the signing of Romelu Lukaku. The German wants his side to be consistent and reach the levels of the last two league winners Manchester City and Liverpool.
Not a lot of people expected Tuchel to produce what he did in four months after taking over midway through the last season. He corrected Chelsea’s league position and pushed them to the fourth spot while making it all the way to the Carabao Cup final. However, his magnum opus would be to guide Chelsea to a much-coveted Champions League trophy.
These are exciting times for Chelsea. After all the celebration of last season, Tuchel knows that his work has only gotten that much difficult. Now, there will be an added burden on the Blues to perform better than they did last season. The Premier League has proved to be a bit of a challenge for the Blues over the last four seasons.
Thomas Tuchel, who will take charge of his first full season at the club, has now set a challenge to his side to win the Premier League.
“We [must] try to be there [at the top]. Why? Because we proved over half of a year that we are capable of doing this and this will be the exact approach. Can we predict what the others do?
No but City showed what it was to be champions. Liverpool showed what it was to be champions. You need consistency of the highest level in the most difficult league in the world and this is the benchmark. We are here to close the gap not only for half a year but for the whole year.”
Chelsea have been aided by the imminent signing of Romelu Lukaku. But Tuchel will know that almost all of the top sides have strengthened equally or more. Chelsea will definitely fancy themselves to lift the trophy in May with the squad they have. For that, they will need Tuchel to work his magic once again.
