According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t Mirror), four Chelsea stars are in line to receive new contracts. The defensive duo of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger and midfield duo of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are all set to extend their stay after a wonderful campaign.
Chelsea’s Champions League triumph last season was no mean feat and a lot of players had to step up to the challenge. The defence seemed like a huge concern midway through the season but after Thomas Tuchel took charge, he installed the likes on Christensen and Rudiger in the backline.
That move worked a charm as both of them proved to be very reliable. As for Jorginho and Kante, there isn’t a better midfield pairing at this point. Jorginho kept things flowing through him while Kante covered every blade of grass on the field with ease to overwhelm his opponents and provide Chelsea with energy.
Rudiger and Christensen are in the last year of their deal, making it a pressing issue to hand them new contracts soon. The other two aren’t at that risk but they deserve a reward for their performances and it would also secure their futures. Chelsea are set to offer all four of them new deals (h/t Mirror).
It is necessary that Chelsea tie up their core group of players to new deals. They have been of immense service to the side and they need to continue in the same vein. For that, the new contracts should be handed as soon as possible.
