“Going to choose”: Out-of-favour Chelsea star sends message to Tuchel over his future at the club

Emerson Palmieri informs Thomas Tuchel that he is open to leaving Chelsea this summer

According to ESPN Brasil (h/t Metro), Chelsea star Emerson Palmieri has informed manager Thomas Tuchel that he is open to calling it quits at Stamford Bridge this summer.

The 27-year-old joined Chelsea in 2018 from AS Roma but has been unable to secure a regular role in the team. He has so far made 71 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring twice and assisting once.

Emerson came off the bench for Chelsea’s emphatic win over Crystal Palace at the weekend. He is, however, seeking a more prominent role and is open to seeking it elsewhere, away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

“I want to play, I want to feel important and that’s what I’m going to look for this month.”

While he is happy to play for Chelsea, the search for regular playtime is something that is on his mind. The Italian may have a role to play yet but it is difficult to see him get the nod over Ben Chilwell when the Englishman is available.

“I’ve already proved that I can play here, but at the same time I want to be on the field. I want to play, I want to feel important, like I already felt.”

Emerson has, in no uncertain terms, revealed that he is open to a move. Curiously, he has also name-dropped Napoli as a potential destination. Whether a return to Serie A is on the cards remains to be seen.

“I’m really going to choose the best option. If it’s to stay at Chelsea, if it happens to Napoli or another team.”

At 27, Emerson is in the prime of his career. He did himself a proper favour by impressing at the Euros as the Italians went all the way in the competition. Given his limited opportunities at Chelsea, one cannot blame him for seeking greener pastures.

“I still have another 25 days, practically, to think about, to be able to choose the best place, right. Where they really want me, want me happy, And where I’m going to choose.”

With Marcos Alonso also at the club, Emerson has a real fight on his hands even to be the second choice left-back. He has already proven his detractors wrong at the Euros and can seek a move away this summer with his head held high. One cannot begrudge the player for choosing what is best for him. Given that Chelsea are in no position to provide it, a parting would be the best bet for all parties.

According to transfer news from Calciomercato (h/t Mirror), Chelsea are demanding €25m to sell Emerson in the summer. Whether the Blues will be willing to lower that price if nobody comes forward remains to be seen.
