Speaking on his YouTube channel, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t Express), mentioned that Chelsea have made no official bid for Erling Haaland despite conversations with the striker’s camp.
The report mentions that the Blues are poised to end their interest in Haaland this summer. Instead, they are believed to focus their time and resources on Inter Milan hitman, Romelu Lukaku.
Haaland, 20, has taken Europe by storm over the past couple of seasons. His performances at RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund have made him a wanted man, and for good reason.
Chelsea are one of the links that have been interested in a summer transfer for him. But according to Romano, there have been no official bids from the Blues yet despite conversations regarding a transfer.
“No official bid yet. They never made a bid this summer. They had many conversations with Haaland’s camp, with Borussia Dortmund too to understand about the situation. But they never made an official bid, never with players also.”
The journalist added another bit of information that would raise some eyebrows – that the German side wants a fee in the region of €170million or €175million to open talks with him, and even that wouldn’t guarantee a sale.
“Dortmund are not accepting €100million, €120m or €130m they want at least €170, €175m to talk about Erling Haaland – not accept.”
That is a massive amount of money for any player, even if he is of Haaland’s quality. The 20-year-old Norwegian also has a €75million clause in his contract that activates next summer.
That is a big concession on the fee being quoted by Romano. If Chelsea really want Haaland over anyone else, they would be wise to observe patience and hope they can make their move next summer for a fee that seems more pocket friendly.
