Newcastle interested in Chelsea duo Malang Sarr and Ethan Ampadu

According to the Express, Newcastle United are interested in bringing the Chelsea duo of Malang Sarr and Ethan Ampadu on loan. Newcastle are hoping to make use of loan deals and a defender is on their wishlist. While the Chelsea pair have caught their eye, they can only sign one as per Premier League rules.

Malang Sarr was among the number of players signed by Chelsea last summer. However, he was immediately allowed to leave on loan to Porto for the season. He did not establish himself in the side and was often seen in most of the cup games. He was even used for the ‘B’ side on occasions.

Ethan Ampadu was also among the number of youngsters that went out on loan last season. Chelsea could keep a good track of his progress as he was sent to Sheffield United. However, he could not do much for the Blades as they finished bottom of the table and were relegated. Ampadu also featured at the Euros with Wales.

Now, Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has taken an interest in them. They are hoping to bring a defender in but only on loan. Despite the interest on the duo, Newcastle can only sign one on loan. Premier League rules prohibit the same club to take two players on loan from a parent club. Chelsea are also open to letting them leave.

Given the depth in Chelsea’s backline, it’s not surprising that they have put up the pair for moves away. Both of them are still a long way off the desired levels at Chelsea. Another loan stint could be on the cards for both or either one to give them more time to develop.
