According to football.london, Emerson Palmieri has agreed on a loan move to Lyon after there were talks regarding a move away from Chelsea this summer.
While it is only an initial loan deal, the Blues could stand a chance to earn nearly £13million if the French club do choose to make it a permanent deal.
Although this would not repay the £24million the West London outfit shelled out for the Italian in 2018, it would certainly be of help in the club’s bid to secure some of their targets this summer.
The Blues have already wrapped up the signing of Romelu Lukaku in a club-record deal worth £97.5million and are still keen on bringing in a centre-back and a midfielder. While Jules Kounde has been targeted for the former, the likes of Jude Bellingham and Aurelien Tchouameni have been on Chelsea’s radar for the midfield role.
However, for Emerson, this would be a good move as the Italian could benefit from some consistent game-time– something he has been longing for, as he told ESPN Brazil (h/t football.london) :
“I’ve already proved that I can play here (Chelsea), but at the same time I want to be on the pitch. I want to play, I want to feel important like I already did”.
The left-back has found game-time hard to come by under the likes of Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel, with the latter using the player very scarcely in the second half of last season.
The Blues boss has also started this season with Marcos Alonso in the left-back role while Ben Chilwell is also on the bench and would also eventually feature for the club, as he did last season.
The Italian, however, would depart Chelsea as a Europa League and Champions League winner, in what has been a largely successful three and a half years at Stamford Bridge.
