Transfer boost for Chelsea as PL rivals drop out of the race to sign 21-year-old Ligue 1 midfielder

Chelsea in contention to sign Aurelien Tchouameni in recent weeks due to the sanctions.

Chelsea have been handed a huge boost in the race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni

According to Manchester Evening News (h/t The Express), Manchester United are no longer interested in signing Chelsea transfer target, Aurelien Tchouameni.

The 21-year-old, who was voted as the Ligue 1’s Young Player of the Year last season has been in great form for Monaco and featured heavily for the French outfit last season after he managed to rack up 42 appearances in all competitions while he has already featured in four games for the club this season.

Chelsea have been keen on signing a central midfielder this summer and have identified Tchouameni as a viable option. They have already been in contact with the 21-year-old’s representatives, according to journalist Simon Johnson (h/t The Express).

However, the Blues were going to face competition for the Frenchman’s signature from Manchester United. While that was the case initially, the Red Devils have now dropped their interest in the player, leaving Chelsea as the sole horse in the race to sign the 21-year-old.

The Blues, who only had Jorginho and Kovacic fit last weekend for their season opener against Crystal Palace, have a lot of shortage in the midfield options. N’Golo Kante was out injured for the game last weekend as he suffered an ankle issue.

Given the fact that Kante’s injury troubles could come back in the future and that Jorginho is also going to turn 30 soon, the Blues could use a more youthful approach in the centre of the pitch.

Additionally, Monaco are valuing the player at a very reasonable price tag of £34million, which the Blues might manage to spend on a player who still has several years of his football career ahead of him.

Chelsea will, however, have to move fast, as the deadline to sign the midfielder will end on the 31st of August.
