According to Goal (h/t Mirror), Chelsea have accepted an offer of £34million for Tammy Abraham from Roma but have added a buy-back clause. Roma are keen to complete the deal after they lost Edin Dzeko to Inter Milan, while the Serie A champions lost Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea.
It’s actually not that hard to point out where it all went wrong for Tammy Abraham at Chelsea. A bright, young striker making his breakthrough at Chelsea under Frank Lampard, it seemed to be going well for him. However, his sacking led to Abraham losing his place in the side. And somehow, Thomas Tuchel was not keen on using the striker.
There is a possibility that we see a striker merry-go-round between Chelsea, Inter Milan and Roma. Chelsea went after Lukaku from Inter which resulted in Inter going after Edin Dzeko from Roma. That has left Roma with a potentially large gap to fill and it could be a reason behind the Serie A side looking at Abraham.
They have succeeded as Chelsea have accepted an offer of £34million for Abraham. However, Chelsea were wise enough to add a buy-back clause in the offer. They have an idea that the striker is talented and they can possibly bring him back if he flourishes. For now, a deal is being held up by the frontman waiting to agree on personal terms.
Once Chelsea went after Lukaku, it was clear that Abraham would find it even tougher to get more gametime. After all, the Blues now have several players to play as a striker apart from Tammy. It may seem harsh on the youngster to let him go but it’s better he is sold and gets to play on a regular basis. In the event things work out, Chelsea can always exercise that buy-back option.
