According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t football.london), Atalanta could enter the race for out of favour Chelsea striker, Tammy Abraham, if Romelu Lukaku links up at Stamford Bridge this summer.
Chelsea are pursuing a deal for the Inter Milan striker and that could trigger a domino effect that could hamper Arsenal’s transfer plans. The Gunners, along with Aston Villa, and West Ham are interested in Abraham. (h/t football.london)
The report states that Inter are assessing replacements in case Lukaku leaves, and Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata seems to be one of them. If that’s the case, La Dea could then turn to Abraham to replace their potentially outgoing Colombian.
The Sun (h/t football.london) says that the Blues are now believed to be demanding £35million for the 23-year-old striker after the aforementioned trio of Premier League clubs stated they would not be willing to pay £40million for Abraham this summer.
The Englishman was clearly not favoured by Thomas Tuchel last season and that pattern could continue this season if he stays. That can be part of the reason why Chelsea are even considering a possible sale this summer.
Abraham was left out of the matchday squad by the German manager for the club’s two biggest games last season- the FA Cup final vs Leicester City and the UEFA Champions League final against Manchester City.
It seems better for all parties that Abraham leaves the club this summer for a desirable transfer fee. While the fans may have warmed up to him, they would understand that any funds attained from his sale can be put towards buying Lukaku.
Potentially scuppering Arsenal’s plans of buying Abraham, if Atalanta do manage to land Abraham, would come as an added bonus for the Chelsea faithful.
