According to transfer news from Football.london, Roma have shown interest in the Chelsea duo of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri. Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho who has taken over as Roma boss is keen to add one of those two names as cover for Leonardo Spinazzola.
It would seem that Jose Mourinho has been handed a headache already within a few days of his new job. Italian star Leonardo Spinazzola was stretchered off the pitch against Belgium at the UEFA Euro 2020 after an Achilles tendon injury. He is likely to be ruled out for the next six or seven months meaning that Mourinho needs another name to cover for him.
Mourinho’s search has led him to one of his former clubs. Indeed, the Portuguese is looking at the Chelsea duo of Emerson and Alonso. While Alonso has been somewhat restored to the side after the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, Emerson cannot call himself that lucky.
In fact, both the left-backs are behind Ben Chilwell who is the first choice in that position. Emerson and Alonso are among a host of names Roma have shortlisted to take the place of Spinazzola. The likes of Federico Dimarco, Cristiano Biraghi and Robin Gosens are among those options.
It wouldn’t entirely be a bad move to let either Emerson or Alonso leave. With Ben Chilwell already there, it makes sense to offload one of them. Although who Chelsea would want to let go, remains to be seen.
