Transfer News: Olivier Giroud move in doubt; could remain at Chelsea
According to transfer news from Mirror, Olivier Giroud could be set to remain at Chelsea. The veteran striker’s proposed move to AC Milan might no go through as expected. The Italian side have now turned towards Luka Jovic and could thereby abandon an approach for the Chelsea striker.
The 34-year-old Giroud has been with Chelsea since January 2018 when he sealed a transfer from Arsenal. The veteran forward has been a handy player for the Blues, chipping in with vital goals on a consistent basis. So far this term, Giroud has racked up a tally of 11 goals from 31 matches in all competitions, scoring some important goals.
With Giroud’s contract set to end this season, it was widely believed that he would be leaving the club on a free transfer. However, Chelsea announced that the World Cup winner had already agreed on a one-year extension earlier in the season, meaning that he would not be leaving for free at least.
AC Milan and Lazio were expected to battle it out for the veteran striker’s signature, with talks first opening in January. However, Milan have now chosen to go after Luka Jovic. If they manage to get the Serbian striker, a move for Giroud is likely to be called off. Hence, the Frenchman could eventually remain at Chelsea, especially if Tammy Abraham leaves the club.

Giroud remaining at Chelsea might not be such a bad idea. He is a decent option to call on from the bench if we need a goal. In the event that Abraham does leave, Giroud’s stay could prove to be a vital one. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
