According to transfer news from football.london, Chelsea target Sasa Kalajdzic has dropped a hint that he would be open to leaving current club VfB Stuttgart this summer.
Kalajdzic came through the youth ranks at Austrian club SR Donaufeld and had a stint with FC Admira Wacker before securing a transfer to VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2019. The 24-year-old endured an injury-riddled debut season in Germany but shone brightly in the 2020/21 campaign.
Indeed, Kalajdzic produced an impressive tally of 17 goals and six assists from 36 games in all competitions. The forward also looked good during Austria’s brief stay in the UEFA Euro 2020. And, it seems like the centre-forward has made an impression on Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel. (h/t The Athletic)
It is no secret that Chelsea are in the market for a new striker with Erling Haaland the top priority. But with a move for the Norwegian difficult, it bodes well for the Blues to keep their options open, with Kalajdzic emerging as one such Plan B in case the club miss out on Haaland. And, amid the mounting speculations, Kalajdzic has left the doors open for a summer exit. Speaking in an interview with Kleine Zeitung (h/t football.london), the 24-year-old has admitted that he would consider leaving Stuttgart should an attractive offer come along.
“Of course I can imagine extending my contract. But that would have to fit. It’s not just me who decides, others also decide. But something would have to come that would just fit, and then we’ll look further. If there is something that really impresses me, where I say I want to do that, then I’ll do it too.”
While not exactly a player cut from the same cloth as Haaland, Kalajdzic would bring in his own attributes to Chelsea and can be a handy signing in case the Blues miss out on the Dortmund star.
