According to Tutto Mercato Web (h/t Mirror via Sport Witness), veteran Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is on the verge of completing his transfer to AC Milan with a date for a medical set.
Giroud has been with Chelsea since January 2018, arriving from local rivals Arsenal and has been an immensely valuable player. The 34-year-old forward might not have been a guaranteed starter week in week out, but went on to play key roles in the Blues’ UEFA Europa League triumph in 2018/19 and the Champions League success this past season.
However, his time at Chelsea was always likely to come to an end this summer, even though Chelsea decided to trigger a one-year contract extension option. As it turns out, that was seemingly done so that the club could get a transfer fee for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner when he eventually left the club.
And, the decision seems to have paid off for Chelsea, with the Blues now reaching an agreement with Serie A heavyweights AC Milan over a transfer for Giroud. The Blues are set to pocket €2m from the transfer, with Giroud having already agreed personal terms with the Rossoneri.
And, as per the report, the rest of the formalities are set to be completed imminently as well. Indeed, Giroud is set to fly into Milan on Sunday, i.e., later today in order to complete his medical.
During his time at Chelsea, Giroud has gone on to make 119 appearances, scoring 39 goals and setting up 14 more. However, curtains are now set to fall on his spell at the Bridge as a new chapter in Milan awaits.
