Chelsea star Thiago Silva speaks out on his fitness issues
According to Football.london, Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has spoken about how he manages his recovery. The defender is 36 years of age but is still going strong at the highest level at an age when some hang up their boots.
The 36-year-old joined Chelsea this summer and despite his age, he has seamlessly adapted to the fast-paced nature of the Premier League. While he did miss a few games in the middle of the season, Andreas Christensen stepped in to take over.
Nonetheless, Silva did go on to make 34 appearances over the season. He missed about nine games due to a thigh injury and some knocks here and there. Having played at top teams for a while now, Silva has had to make adjustments to his fitness and recovery routines.
The Brazilian veteran explained how he manages his injuries at this stage of his career.
“From now on I have to live every season. We know that our fitness is not the same of two, three years ago. The time to recover between matches changes a lot. But I will continue to prepare to reach my dreams. The World Cup is still pending.
“I knew I couldn’t carry on (when he suffered the injury against Man City), I put my head down and covered it with the shirt … I had lost last year’s final, then I left with the score 0-0. I asked God to win it and that the injury wasn’t serious so I could play for Brazil. It is impossible not to think of the World Cup.”
