According to transfer news from Mirror, Chelsea have made contact with Sergio Ramos over a free transfer. Chelsea are hoping to repeat what they did with Thiago Silva last season and get another free agent in the side. Along with Chelsea, PSG, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also said to be in the race to sign him.
Sergio Ramos is officially no longer a Real Madrid player. The club confirmed that the captain would be leaving after a new contract could not be agreed upon. Farewells were bid as the 35-year old leaves the club after 16 trophy-laden seasons.
Ramos cleared the air regarding his exit. He claimed that he initially wanted a two-year deal but the club only offered him one and with a pay cut. While he wanted to accept the one-year option later, he found out that it was no longer on the table.
With his future now up in the air, several clubs including Chelsea, PSG, Manchester City and Bayern Munich have been linked with a move for him. Nonetheless, Chelsea have made contact with the representatives of the veteran defender. However, PSG are believed to be leading the race for his signature.
Chelsea are rightly going after Ramos. They saw how a free transfer for Thiago Silva worked out and are hoping to repeat the same. While Ramos may not exactly be a long-term option for the club, he does represent a great short-term one. His leadership qualities could be something Chelsea can use.
