Ross Barkley could stay at Chelsea despite attracting interest from Turkey.

Transfer News: Newcastle United chase Chelsea duo Conor Gallagher and Ross Barkley

According to a report by The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t football.london], Newcastle United are keen on two Chelsea midfielders, namely Ross Barkley and Conor Gallagher.

The Magpies also hold an interest in bringing back Joe Willock from Arsenal. However, the Chelsea duo is very much on their wishlist as well.

Both Gallagher and Barkley were surplus to requirements last season at Stamford Bridge last season. The 21-year-old Gallagher was on loan at West Bromwich Albion where he made 30 league appearances and scored twice.

The Baggies were, however, relegated. Barkley, 27, was at Aston Villa and impressed for Dean Smith’s side, making 24 league appearances and scoring thrice through the campaign despite injuries.

Chelsea duo headed to the Toons?

The Blues should be careful about who they want to sell and what players they want to keep. Offloading too many players without seeking replacements can come back to bite them this season.

The club has already parted ways with Fikayo Tomori, Marc Guehi, Olivier Giroud, Lewis Bate while loaning out the likes of Billy Gilmour and Nathan Baxter (h/t Sky Sports) With Bate and Gilmour not there this season, the Blues should look to keep one of Barkley and Gallagher.

Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, and Mateo Kovacic make for a sold midfield line-up. But Tuchel would have to rotate his squad during the course of the season with the possibility of fitness issues always lingering.

More Chelsea News:

Gallagher especially is young and his regular appearances for West Brom last season showed he has what it to takes to be a first-team player in England’s top flight. Hence, a loan would perhaps be better than an outright permanent sale.
