According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are ‘preparing a move’ for Sevilla centre-back and Chelsea target, Jules Kounde, in this transfer window.
The Red Devils are already looking to bring in Real Madrid’s 28-year-old defender, Raphael Varane. However, that hasn’t stopped them from being linked with the former Girondins de Bordeaux man. (h/t Daily Mail)
Apart from Chelsea and United, 22-year-old Kounde 22 has also been linked with Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs are the only team out of the 4 names mentioned that will not play in the Champions League next season.
According to the report, Kounde’s versatility to play as a right-back, as well as his young age, has spurred Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to consider him as an option in the summer. This comes as obvious bad news for the Blues.
Thiago Silva will be 37 this year while defenders such as Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are in the final 12 months of their contract at Stamford Bridge. Earlier this month, Kurt Zouma has also been linked with a move to AS Roma by Telefoot (h/t Daily Mail).
Kounde would be a solid addition in that regard. The youngster has already cemented himself as a first-team starter at Sevilla and has already featured for the senior France national team.
But only time will tell if the Blues go after Kounde after having a solid season defensively under Thomas Tuchel. It is, however, a move they should consider.
Future-proofing the defensive line is something that the German manager should undertake sooner rather than later.
