Transfer News: Chelsea to battle with Manchester City for Jack Grealish
A report by Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb (h/t football.london) mentions that Chelsea are willing to battle with Manchester City for England international, Jack Grealish.
Thomas Tuchel’s side can thus hijack a £100m move from City for the Aston Villa superstar. The Citizens have looked like the favourites to land him but Chelsea’s inclusion can threaten their pursuit.
Grealish, 25, represented England at the 2020 UEFA Euro and impressed whenever he was on the pitch for Gareth Southgate’s team. He would undoubtedly be a top addition to any team in Europe.
The Birmingham-born superstar can also play in midfield as well as on the left flank. He has become a top-quality player for the Villans under Dean Smith, and Tuchel is one of many onlookers to be mesmerized by him.
Do Chelsea need Grealish?
Speaking earlier this year in May to Sky Sports (h/t football.london) before Chelsea faced the Villans in their penultimate league game, Tuchel was full of praise for Grealish and noted how he makes Villa a better side.
“Look at the statistics! Aston Villa with and without him are different teams. He is involved in almost every offensive situation, he is very good at decision-making. He has a lot of composure in assisting, finishing and bringing people around him in top situations, dangerous situations to be able to score… What he does in the future is in his hands.”
It’s safe to say the former PSG and Borussia Dortmund manager is a fan of Grealish. But he would not come cheap and this could create a confusing situation especially among fans regarding which player they need.
While the club has an array of quality wingers, they still lack a proper goal threat to compete with Timo Werner. A new number 9 like Erling Haaland could take Chelsea’s game to the next level, but that doesn’t mean Grealish can’t do the same.

Looks like the Chelsea board can have a big call to make if they are indeed seriously interested in Grealish. But either one of Haaland and Grealish would not leave a lot of room for complaints from the Chelsea faithful.
