“Out of the question”: Journalist claims London club unlikely to sign Chelsea forward

Crystal Palace move for Chelsea ace Michy Batshuayi ruled out by journalist

Speaking to Football FanCast (h/t MSN), The Athletic journalist Matt Woosnam has discussed the chances of Crystal Palace signing Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi this summer.

Signed from Olympique Marseille in 2016, Batshuayi has never quite managed to live up to the billing during his time with Chelsea. A solid loan stint with Borussia Dortmund aside, the Belgian international has largely struggled to produce the goods, be it with the Blues or with the teams that he has been on loan at.

Batshuayi so far has had two temporary stints with Crystal Palace. The 27-year-old spent the second half of the 2018/19 campaign with the Eagles. The forward was then back at Selhurst Park for the 2020/21 season but endured an underwhelming time. In all, he has featured 33 times for the London club, scoring eight times.

Now back at Chelsea, Batshuayi remains out of favour and is staring at an uncertain future. And, Woosnam was asked whether there was a possibility of the Belgian international returning to Crystal Palace again, to which he said:

“I think that’s almost certainly not going to happen. It’s out of the question. Palace are looking at revitalising their squad and it’s very clear they’re looking at younger players. That does not mean completely avoiding slightly older players but Batshuayi is slightly old in that respect.”

More Chelsea News:

Batshuayi has entered the final year of his contract with Chelsea. So, it is imperative that the Blues cash in on him this summer or they will run the risk of losing him for nothing in 2022. With a move to Palace seemingly off the table, though, it will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old has any fresh suitors.
