Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta told Italian outlet Sportmediaset via The Chelsea Chronicle (h/t football.london) that Romelu Lukaku is considered ‘non-transferable’ buy the club.
Thomas Tuchel is in the market for a new striker to compete with Timo Werner. While Erling Haaland remains the priority, a move for Lukaku hasn’t been off the table during the summer. (h/t football.london)
The Inter hitman has done well for himself since leaving Stamford Bridge for Everton on a permanent transfer in 2014. He then joined Manchester United before sealing a move to I Nerazzurri in 2019.
The Belgian striker starred in Antonio Conte’s team last season when they won their first Scudetto in 11 years. And it is understandable why his current club would want to keep their in-form target man.
In fact, according to Marotta, the striker is considered ‘non-transferable’ by the club and a vital part of Simone Inzaghi’s side- the former Lazio manager who took over Conte’s job this summer.
“Can Lukaku be considered non-transferable? From our side, yes, absolutely. Lukaku is an important element in this chessboard at Simone Inzaghi’s disposal.”
A deal, however, may not be entirely off the table. According to Tuttosport (h/t football.london), while Inter do want to keep Lukaku at San Siro, they can be forced to sell if a nine-figure offer is made.
That would be a steep sum to pay for a 28-year-old. Investing the same amount towards a youngster striker, such as Haaland, could pay better dividends in the future.
It remains to be seen if Chelsea can land any striker during this window. If not, they always have the option of promoting Armando Broja to the senior squad.
