Transfer News: Chelsea striker Ike Ugbo edges closer to KRC Genk move
As per news from reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano that Chelsea striker, Ike Ugbo, has agreed personal terms with Belgian side, KRC Genk for a transfer this summer.
The 22-year-old wants to join Genk ‘as soon as possible’ and a deal could be completed in a few days’ time, as mentioned in Romano’s tweet.
“Chelsea striker Ike Ugbo has now agreed personal terms with Genk – they’ve been leading the race as reported last week. #Genk #CFC Ugbo wants to join the Belgian side as soon as possibile and the deal could be completed in the next days.”
Ugbo has come through the youth academy at Chelsea but has failed to establish himself with the senior side. His time at the club has been signified by a number of loan spells, which isn’t an anomaly for a young Chelsea player.
Ugbo close to Genk move
His first three loan outings were all with lower-division English sides in Barnsley, MK Dones, and Scunthorpe United. He then joined Dutch team, Roda JC, for the 2019/20 campaign while being loaned out to Cercle Brugge last season.
While he has featured for the reserve side a number of times, the London-born Englishman has never played a single minute for Chelsea’s senior team. In that regard, selling him is probably a good call.
Another tweet by Romano last week mentioned that this deal would be a permanent transfer instead of a loan move. That is something that could also benefit the Blues considering they can get a player they don’t need, off their books.

Time will tell what the financial structure of any potential deal is, but if the Blues can get a decent transfer sum, then this could prove to be a smart piece of business from Marina Granovskaia.
