Transfer News: Kurt Zouma – Gianluca Mancini swap on the cards for Chelsea

According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea and Roma could be looking at a swap deal involving Kurt Zouma and Gianluca Mancini. Apparently, Jose Mourinho has asked for Zouma and £10m in cash if Chelsea are to go after Mancini.

Kurt Zouma was one of the signings Mourinho made when he returned for his second spell at Chelsea. The Frenchman was tipped as a talented defender with the potential to grow. However, he was sent on a couple of loan spells before finally making the cut at Chelsea.

While Chelsea started with a back four last season, Frank Lampard used Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva as his first-choice pairing. However, once Tuchel took over, he switched to a back three and brought back the likes of Azpilicueta and Rudiger. That left Zouma on the benches for most of the games.

Mourinho wants Zouma reunion at Roma

Chelsea, on the other hand, are eyeing up a deal for Gianluca Mancini who has impressed in the last few seasons with Atalanta and Roma. The 24-year-old has developed into one of the best defenders in Serie A during that time. However, Roma’s wage bill needs to be reduced and selling off a star player could help in that regard.

It would seem that Chelsea and Roma have found a mutual solution. The clubs are keen on a cash plus player swap deal which would see Mancini head to Chelsea, while Zouma heads to Roma with £10m additional fees. Mourinho is particularly keen on Zouma who he brought to Chelsea during his second spell.

Getting a young defender like Mancini might not be too bad a prospect for Chelsea. Getting Zouma off their books as well would be a bonus. The Blues could use a few fresh faces in defence and the Italian defender could be a great long-term addition for the side.
