Speaking to Sky Sports via HITC (h/t Football.london), Spanish journalist Alvaro Montero has revealed that Chelsea target Jules Kounde has aspirations of playing for Real Madrid.
The Frenchman has emerged as one of the best young defenders in the league at Sevilla and is a man in demand this summer. Just 22, he has shown the potential to become an elite center-back in the years to come.
Chelsea, for their part, are very interested and are mooting a player plus cash deal for the player. Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that the 22-year-old has already personal terms on a deal till 2026 with the Blues.
Real Madrid, too, are one of the teams interested in the player and it would appear that they may not be out of the reckoning yet. Los Blancos need to replace the soon-to-depart Raphael Varane and Montero has revealed that one of the players in the fray is Kounde.
“If I had to bet for a player that Real Madrid likes then it’s Jules Kounde’s, the French guy from Sevilla.”
The player too is keen to move to Real and it remains to be seen if it will throw a spanner in our efforts to land him. While Chelsea are currently in advanced negotiations, there could yet be twists and turns before an agreement is reached.
“I believe he will wait to play in the Premier League because he’s decided that his dream is to sign for Real Madrid.”
Montero goes on to add that the player prefers a switch to the Bernabeu over a Premier League challenge. He expects the player to end up at Real either this summer or the next.
The Spaniards are, however, struggling with their finances thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. As things stand, it is difficult to see Real pay the €70m needed to land Kounde. Whether Chelsea can sway the player’s heart in the coming weeks remains to be seen.
An imposing presence at the back, Kounde also possesses great ball-playing abilities and ground speed, making him a proper modern-day all-round defender. The 22-year-old would be an excellent addition to the Blues roster.
