According to news from The Athletic, Chelsea youngster, Armando Broja has agreed a new five-year contract with the club, with an announcement set to be made in the coming days.
A product of the Chelsea youth academy, Broja joined the Blues at the Under-9 level and has since enjoyed a rapid progression through the ranks at the club. The 19-year-old forward made his first-team debut for Chelsea in 2020 in a game against Everton.
This past season saw Broja being loaned out to Dutch outfit Vitesse Arnhem, where he made a solid impression. The teenage striker featured 34 times across all competitions for his temporary club, scoring 11 goals and setting up three more.
On the back of his impressive form, Broja also broke into the Albanian national team towards the end of the last year and has gone on to make six appearances so far. Now back at Chelsea for the pre-season ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, the teenage forward scored his first goal for the Blues in the friendly against Peterborough United.
Soon after Chelsea’s thumping 6-1 win over The Posh on Saturday, news of Broja’s contract extension broke. As per the report, the 19-year-old Albanian international is rated highly by manager Thomas Tuchel and has now agreed on a new long-term five-year contract with the west London giants.
With Olivier Giroud leaving Chelsea for AC Milan and Tammy Abraham also staring at an uncertain future, despite impressing in the win over Peterborough, Broja could be set for an opportunity in the first-team when the new season kicks off next month.
Alternatively, the youngster could be sent out on loan for another spell to ensure that he continues playing regularly and stays on track with regard to his progress and development. Nonetheless, the news of Broja agreeing on a new contract will come as a pleasing update for Chelsea fans.
