Chelsea keeping tabs on Barcelona attacker Antoine Griezmann
According to Catalan publication Sport (h/t Express), Chelsea are keeping an eye on Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann who could be on the move this summer.
The French international is one of the finest players of his generation and has contributed much to both Atletico Madrid and France’s successes in the 2010s. His move to the Nou Camp has, however, not gone to plan and the cash-strapped Catalans could be ready to cut their losses.
While there is some interest from Chelsea’s side in the player, it is not, as of this moment in time, a priority. That is because there are three players who are ahead of Griezmann on Chelsea’s wishlist.
According to the report, Chelsea are in the market for a new striker. However, Griezmann doesn’t feature at the top of their wishlist. Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Erling Haaland is the man in demand with the likes of Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku also being looked at. (h/t Express)
Griezmann in his pomp was one of the best in the world. His form has, however, nose-dived at the Nou Camp. While he has had his moments, it is a far cry from the consistent performances he put up while at Atletico Madrid.
Low risk, high reward?
Currently 30, the Frenchman is not getting any younger and Chelsea will do well to negotiate a loan switch. The approach should at best get us a world-class player with minimal risk involved. Whether that is something we will explore further remains to be seen.
It is a summer of change as far as the Chelsea frontline is concerned. Olivier Giroud has already left for AC Milan while the likes of Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner face uncertain futures. It is imperative that we bring in a new striker while also adding depth to the position. Whether these plans will also include Griezmann remains to be seen.

Thomas Tuchel, for his part, was keen to work with the player while in charge of Paris Saint-Germain in 2019. Unfortunately, it was not to be and the Frenchman moved to Barcelona. Two years on, it remains to be seen if the Chelsea boss will get his way.
Clearly, we can do worse.
