According to transfer news from Football.london, Chelsea are keen on signing PSG star Marquinhos. The centre-back is liked by Thomas Tuchel and the pair have previously worked together at PSG. He is being seen as a defensive option that can be pursued by the club.
By the end of last season, few teams could boast about their defensive nous was better than that of Chelsea. The introduction of Tuchel brought about a change in the playing style with the side adopting a defence-first approach. It’s not as if the attack wasn’t working but the fact that defence was prioritised.
Tuchel mostly relied on the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger to carry out his backline duties. The quartet was impressive as Chelsea went on to secure the Champions League as well top four in the Premier League.
Now, it is understood that signing a new centre-back is not exactly a priority. However, it is something the club are still pondering. One name they could look to is Marquinhos (h/t Football.london). The PSG star has been an impressive presence for the French club. He even took on the leadership role after Silva joined Chelsea.
Having previously worked with the defender, Tuchel knows what he will get with the 28-year-old Brazilian. A dominant defender who can also chip in with regular goals, meaning that he looks the perfect fit for the Blues.
