With the Euro 2020 now out of the way with Italy being crowned champions, UEFA released the official Team of the Tournament and Chelsea star Jorginho made the cut.
After enjoying a fine season with Chelsea where he won the UEFA Champions League, Jorginho enjoyed a stunning run with Italy, playing a key role in their Euro triumph. An ever-present in the middle of the park, the 29-year-old was a top operator, cutting out attacks and dictating the tempo of the game with comfort.
His ice-cold penalty in the semi-final shootout against Spain was a thing of beauty. With Jorginho tasting success with both Italy and Chelsea, calls for him being named the Ballon d’Or 2021 winner have been doing the rounds quite a fair bit.
And a place in the UEFA Euro 2020 Team of the Tournament only enhances his credentials for the major honour. Jorginho is joined by Italy teammates Gianluigi Donnarumma, Leonardo Bonucci, Leonardo Spinazzola and Federico Chiesa in UEFA’s team.
In addition, there are places for England’s Kyle Walker, Harry Maguire and Raheem Sterling while Pedri, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Romelu Lukaku make up the rest of the team. There is no place for Jorginho’s Chelsea teammate Mason Mount in the side.
Chelsea fans celebrated Jorginho’s success on social media and here are some of the reactions to him being named in the UEFA Euro 2020 Team of the Tournament.
