It has been a special year of Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. From making a high-profile transfer from Ligue 1 club Rennes to the Blues, the Senegalese went on to play a starring role in the club’s successful campaign.
Indeed, Mendy played an integral role in Chelsea going on to win the UEFA Champions League in the 2020/21 campaign, while also helping the team to a top-four finish in the Premier League.
In his debut season with the west London giants, Mendy racked up 44 appearances across all competitions, firmly establishing himself as the first-choice ahead of the world’s most expensive goalkeeper in Kepa Arrizabalaga. The 29-year-old managed to address a major problem position for Chelsea after coming in and took little time to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League. So, it was only well-deserved when Edouard Mendy was named the “Best African International” at the Ghana Football Awards 2021 on Saturday night.
