Transfer News: Chelsea handed a boost in Federico Chiesa pursuit as Liverpool drop out

According to Sky Sports (h/t Football.london), Chelsea have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit of Italian star Federico Chiesa this summer.

The Azzurri winger was one of Roberto Mancini’s best players as Italy won the UEFA Euro 2020 title earlier this summer. The 23-year-old not only won two man-of-the-match awards in the competition but also was included in the team of the tournament.

Long considered as one of Italy’s finest young wingers, he has now taken his abilities to the international stage. This has seen him capture the attention of both Liverpool and Chelsea.

Chiesa was among the best players at Euro 2020.

Jurgen Klopp’s side ended the 2020/21 season strongly and injuries permitting will once again be a force to contend with this season. The German is keen to reinforce his attack and would have welcomed the opportunity to add Chiesa to the ranks.

Fortunately for us, the Reds have balked at the player’s £68.3m asking price and have decided to cool their interest. With them now out of the running, Chelsea could seize the initiative and make their move to land the Italian ace.

There are, however, other complications that could threaten a potential approach. The player is currently midway through a two-year loan at Juventus. The Turin giants have already agreed to sign him permanently from Fiorentina in 2022 and it is difficult to see them sell the player.

With Cristiano Ronaldo set to leave the club sooner or later, Juventus will need a new face for Massimiliano Allegri’s second coming. The Italian tactician has already deemed the player ‘non-transferable‘ and appears to have plans for him this season.

With Hakim Ziyech linked with a move away, Chelsea could do with another winger, especially one with an eye for goal. Chiesa certainly fits that bill. But whether we have any chance of landing him remains to be seen.

Having won the UEFA Champions League last season, Chelsea have the opportunity to put together a side that can stay competitive for years. While Chiesa may prove unattainable, it would be foolhardy on our part to not bring in other reinforcements this summer.
