According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea have received a blow in the chase for Raphael Varane. The Real Madrid defender will take his time before deciding on his future and will also have talks with new manager Carlo Ancelotti. Manchester United are also said to be interested.
Varane has been a stalwart at the back for Real Madrid for almost a decade now and has won loads of trophies during his time at the club. However, the Frenchman has entered the final year of his contract with Los Blancos and is yet to commit his future to the Spanish club.
After France’s elimination from the Euros, Varane is now on holiday to recover after a gruelling season for both club and country. While both were fairly disappointing, interest in the World Cup winner remains high due to his contract situation.
Chelsea and Manchester United have taken a particular interest in the 28-year-old. However, they will have to wait on Varane’s availability and decision. After the defender returns from his three-week holiday, he will discuss his future with Ancelotti. Only then he will come to a decision on his stay at the club.
With Varane unavailable for the next few weeks, it would be hard for Chelsea to discuss any sort of deal for him. For now, Chelsea can only wait or focus on any other transfers until Varane decides on his future.
