According to transfer news from Football.london, Edmond Tapsoba has played down talks over a move to Chelsea. The Bayer Leverkusen defender spoke about Chelsea’s interest in him but he wants to remain at his current club and continue there.
Chelsea have been after a few new names over the summer. Players such as Erling Haaland, Achraf Hakimi, and Declan Rice have all been linked with the Champions League winners. Among those names is Edmond Tabsoba, the highly-rated defender from Bayer Leverkusen.
Leverkusen snapped up the defender from Vitoria Guimaraes for a sizable fee in January last year, which could rise even further. The German side were impressed by his ball-playing skills at such a young age. He is now one of the first names on the team sheet, missing only a few games last season.
However, despite the links to Chelsea, Edmond Tapsoba has cleared the air regarding any potential move.
“With Chelsea FC, for the moment, there is nothing concrete, nothing official. What I can say is that I will start my season with Bayer Leverkusen. We keep our fingers crossed for God to guide us to the right path.”
While this is not a setback per se, Chelsea are still in with a chance to get him. He has not ruled out any move but it is clear that Chelsea have shown interest in the 22-year-old. Give how much he has developed over the last one season, he does represent a good prospect to go after.
