Report – Arsenal looking at alternatives for out-of-favour £40m-rated Chelsea attacking star

Transfer News: Arsenal looking at alternatives for Chelsea ace Tammy Abraham

According to The Telegraph (h/t Daily Mail), Arsenal remain interested in Chelsea star Tammy Abraham but are now looking at alternatives for the Blues ace.

The English striker enjoyed a breakout season during the 2019/20 campaign under Frank Lampard. He has, however, fallen from favour under Thomas Tuchel and barely featured for the club since the German took over.

Arsenal are in the market for a striker and have his sights set on Abraham. Chelsea are open to a sale but are seeking £40m for his services. Mikel Arteta is a fan of the player and is keen to take him to the Emirates.

The Gunners could take Abraham on loan for a season before making the deal permanent next summer. The North Londoners will also need to foot the player’s £80,000-a-week wages. They will be in a position to afford the financial commitment only after getting both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah off the wage bill.

Both players are in the final years of their contract and could leave on a free next year. Lacazette is not getting any younger and it may be prudent for them to cash in this summer. Nketiah has been offered a contract but is yet to pen it. How it goes could very well impact the Gunners’ pursuit of Abraham. (h/t Daily Mail)

Arsenal, for their part, are looking at alternatives, among them Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine will cost significantly more than Abraham and given Arsenal’s financial restrictions, it makes little sense for them to go for him instead.

Abraham, for his part, is open to a move to the Emirates. The 23-year-old is seeking regular playtime, a prospect that is far from a given at the Bridge. Having already lost Olivier Giroud, Chelsea cannot afford to let Abraham leave without bringing in a replacement. Doing so would only put more pressure on an already struggling Timo Werner.

While a move to one of our London rivals is not likely to endear him to fans, one cannot fault Abraham for seeking better chances elsewhere. The youngster’s time at Chelsea looks unlikely to yield results and it is also in the club’s best interests to cash in on him.
