Transfer News: Wolfsburg confident of keeping Maxence Lacroix amid Chelsea interest
According to transfer news from Metro, Wolfsburg are confident of keeping Chelsea target Maxence Lacroix. The Blues have been credited with an interest in the defender. But Wolfsburg chief Marcel Schafer is hoping that Champions League football will sway him into remaining at the German club.
Chelsea are somewhat trying to assess their defensive options for next season. On the whole, the unit has looked well settled and solid. In the three-man defence, the likes of Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta have been used.
Others like Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma have also been used as and when required. While all these players have done well for Tuchel, he wants to bring in a new central defender in the summer to revamp the squad.
Wolfsburg hope that Lacroix will stay back
While his initial choices were Marquinho and Raphael Varane, Lacroix has emerged as a cheaper alternative. One of the best emerging talents in Germany, Lacroix is an integral part of the Wolfsburg side. It is understood that an offer of around £26million might be enough to prise away the young defender.
However, Wolfsburg chief Marcel Schafer is confident that the Frenchman will remain at the club amidst interest from clubs such as Chelsea, Dortmund and Leipzig.
‘I assume that he will continue to play for us. He can take another big step in his development with us in the Champions League.’
