According to transfer news from Mirror, Chelsea are keen to sign Italy star Leonardo Spinazzola. The Roma defender has been in sublime form for Italy in the Euros and that has attracted the attention of sides like Chelsea and Real Madrid.
It seems as if the Euros is living up to its name as we are seeing new stars emerging from almost every game. One such name is that of Leonardo Spinazzola. The Italian full-back started the tournament in a bright fashion with a MOTM display against Turkey.
Similar performances against Switzerland and Austria meant that Europe’s leading clubs were now taking notice. An ultra attacking full-back, the Roma man bombed forward at the drop of a hat and aided Italy’s attack. He did not forget his defensive duties though, as most of the sides failed to trouble Italy.
Chelsea are keen on upgrading their wing-back options after Thomas Tuchel switched to a back-three. With Emerson and Marcos Alonso likely to move away, Tuchel wants the 28-year-old Spinazzola to compete with Ben Chilwell for the left-wingback spot. Chelsea will have to be cautious though as Real Madrid have also shown interest.
Spinazzola’s stock will only rise further as Italy booked their place in the quarter-finals. He will get more chances to impress and that will likely shoot up any asking price Roma have in mind. However, the Italian looks the real deal and Chelsea should try to push for his signing.
