Tuchel to use pre-season to assess the future of Chelsea duo returning from loan

Thomas Tuchel has given his verdict on Chelsea transfer window.

Transfer News: Thomas Tuchel to assess futures of Chelsea duo

According to transfer news from Mirror, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will make a decision on the futures of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tiemoue Bakayoko. The duo have returned from their respective loan spells at Fulham and Napoli. Tuchel will give them a chance over the pre-season before taking a call on what to do with them.

The 25-year-old Loftus-Cheek, once regarded as the next biggest thing to come out of the Chelsea youth academy, has had his progress derailed over the seasons. Having hardly played in the 2019-20 season, Loftus-Cheek secured a loan transfer to Fulham in the summer of 2020.

Bakayoko joined Chelsea after an impressive spell at Monaco in 2017. Despite having a number of opportunities, the Frenchman failed to impress under the various managers he played under. He has since been sent out on loan thrice, including to Napoli last summer. There is still interest from Italy and a suitable bid could convince Chelsea to let him go.

Now as both the midfielders are back, Thomas Tuchel wants to integrate them into the side during pre-season. Depending on how that goes, he will take a call on their respective futures at the club. The club are likely to keep one or both given that Billy Gilmour is likely to head out on loan, leaving the midfield a bit short in numbers.

It’s definitely a good move to reintroduce the players back into the side after long spells away. Both have had mixed spells at several clubs. However, they could be of some use to Tuchel, who is known to rotate his options across the pitch.
