According to transfer news from Daily Mail, Chelsea are confident of pulling off a £170m deal for Erling Haaland. Haaland’s countryman Jan Aage Fjortoft posted that the Blues are working very hard to complete the signing and the sticking point would be his wages.
The Norwegian hitman has taken Europe by storm with his goal-scoring exploits for RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund. In 59 outings for the latter, he has scored 57 goals. Chelsea have held an interest in the player for a while now as they try to add a striker to their ranks for next season.
It looked as if Haaland was surely heading for the exit. But with Dortmund’s Champions League qualification ensured for next season, there is a chance that he remains in Westfalenstadion. Whatever be the case, it is expected that clubs like Chelsea and both Manchester sides would go after him.
It has now been reported that Chelsea are making an enormous effort to sign the Norwegian. Fjortoft, who is Haaland’s countryman, spoke about how intensely Chelsea are pursuing the striker.
‘Chelsea working intense (sic) to get Erling Haaland. He is seen as the ‘missing’ player to make them challenge for the PL title next season. Fee very high, but confidence that this can be solved. The main obstacle could be the wage-structure at Chelsea.’
It’s not hard to guess why Chelsea are bending over backwards to sign the talented goalscorer. Chelsea might have won the Champions League but the fact remains that they could have achieved even more with a clinical striker up front. Haaland has shown that he can do it at such a young age and Chelsea can feel that it would be worth paying the big bucks for him.
