According to transfer news from Daily Mail, Chelsea are set to land a windfall of £25m by selling Fikayo Tomori. AC Milan are expected to activate his to-buy clause at the end of his loan spell at the club.
A product of the Chelsea youth academy, Tomori broke into the first-team in 2019 after loan spells away at Hull City and Derby County. Initially a regular under Frank Lampard, the England international found himself out of favour since the second half of that season.
Tomori dropped further down the pecking order this term following the arrival of Thiago Silva on a free transfer. Having been deprived of game time at the Bridge, he moved to Milan in January, where he thrived endlessly. The 23-year-old quickly went about establishing himself as a mainstay at the back for the Rossoneri.
Now, it has been reported that the Blues will gain a profit of £25m, with Milan set to complete the signing of Tomori on a permanent basis. It had also been reported that AC Milan had reportedly agreed on activating his buyout clause. The English defender is expected to sign a five-year deal at the club.
Tomori’s 15-year association with the Blues finally seems to be coming to an end this summer. While it would be hindsight to say Chelsea should not have let Tomori leave, the fact remains that Chelsea have enough players who can do the job for them as we have seen. Nonetheless, the Blues are all set to land some handsome profits from this sale.
