Transfer News: Chelsea defender Malang Sarr wanted by Fenerbahce
According to transfer news from Turkish outlet Takvim (h/t Football.london), Chelsea defender Malang Sarr has emerged as a transfer target for Fenerbahce this summer.
Sarr signed for Chelsea in the summer last year, on a free transfer after his contract with French club OGC Nice had ran down. However, the 22-year-old was immediately sent out on loan to Portuguese giants FC Porto.
Sarr, though, did not feature all too regularly for the Dragons as he managed just 19 first-team appearances during his time in the Iberian nation, while taking the field eight times for Porto’s B team. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Now that his loan deal with FC Porto has ran out, Sarr is expected to be on his way back to Chelsea this summer. But once again, the French centre-back could be on the move, this time to Turkey where Fenerbahce are keen on signing him, as per the aforementioned report.
It has not been mentioned clearly as to whether the Turkish heavyweights want to sign the 22-year-old on loan or a permanent transfer. Either ways, a move away from the Bridge would be beneficial for both Chelsea and Sarr himself.
If he stayed put, the Frenchman is unlikely to get a lot of playing time, considering as Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma are all ahead of him in the pecking order at Chelsea.

As for the club, sending him out on loan would ensure that his development continues, allowing them to reap the benefits in the long run, should they decide to bring him back into the fold. A permanent transfer means Chelsea stand to make a profit on a signing they did not pay any transfer fees for.
Either way, it is hard to imagine Sarr staying at Stamford Bridge for the upcoming season. Whether he leaves on another loan spell or seals a permanent transfer remains to be seen.
