According to transfer news from Football.london, Chelsea outcast Davide Zappacosta could be about to head for an exit. The Italian wing-back is set to return from his loan spell at Genoa and could be sold for around £10m.
The 28-year-old Italian signed for the Blues in the summer of 2017 from Torino in a deal worth £23m. However, the full-back was never able to establish himself as a regular in the first team at the club after 2018.
Zappacosta, during his time at Chelsea, has made 52 appearances, scoring two goals and assisting four more. Having been sparingly used in the 2018/19 term, Zappacosta was loaned out to AS Roma. However, the 28-year-old failed to make the most of his time at the Italian capital club, due to a ligament injury.
However, he did enjoy a fairly successful spell at Genoa this season. He went on to make 25 Serie A appearances while contributing to 6 goals. With just a year left on his deal, Chelsea are looking to offload the wingback for a decent £10m. This transfer window represents the last chance for them to recoup some of the money they spent on him.
Zappacosta does not appear to have a future at Chelsea with the club having the likes of Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta to play on the right side of the defence. While it is unclear as to where he might be heading, it is probably for the best that he is being cashed on.
