Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell forced to self isolate for England after contact with Chelsea teammate Billy Gilmour
According to a report by The Guardian, Chelsea and England teammates Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount have been forced to self isolate after Covid-19 scare.
The two Englishmen were apparently in close contact with Billy Gilmour in the tunnel after they drew 0-0 with Scotland. All three of them play their club football at Stamford Bridge.
Gilmour returned a positive Covid test on Monday. And the Football Association has decided to force Mount and Chilwell to isolate in order to play it safe. (h/t The Guardian)
Gareth Southgate, the Three Lions manager, mentioned that it could be because of the chat the trio had after the game, but mentioned that his team selection can be changed by this development.
“It would be something to do with chatting after the game but I have no idea of all the detail… We haven’t confirmed the team yet and we will wait until the morning when we are really clear on the final situation with the two boys [Chilwell and Mount] and where we stand.”
Covid scare in England’s camp
England take on Czech Republic in their penultimate group game at the Euros. A win would ensure they qualify as group winners but even a loss to the Czechs would see them qualify.
That is because of results elsewhere on Monday night. England, even if they lose on Tuesday, would be one of the best third-placed teams, and could make it to the last 16.
The news of Gilmour’s isolation is a bigger blow considering Scotland’s situation. They need to beat Croatia to have any hopes of qualifying.

For Chelsea fans, it’s three less Blues players that they would be seeing in action at the Euros on Tuesday but the trio should be okay to return after the stipulated isolation time.
