According to transfer news from Daily Star, new Roma manager Jose Mourinho wants Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham. The Italian club are among a host of Premier League clubs who have shown interest in the out-of-favour Chelsea man.
Tammy Abraham is having a torrid time at Chelsea. It was an all too familiar sight to see the academy graduate on the bench, or even out of the matchday squads in the last few months of the campaign. The striker has hardly featured during that time. He has often come off the bench in the dying minutes or has not featured at all.
The England international slipped down the pecking order after the arrival of Thomas Tuchel and Timo Werner. The likes of Werner and Kai Havertz have been preferred ahead of the academy graduate. And with the success they have had, there seems to be no way back for Abraham.
That has resulted in clubs like Roma wanting to sign the striker. Jose Mourinho is set to take over next season from Paulo Fonseca. While he does have the likes of Edin Dzeko at his disposal, it would make much more sense to go after a younger option like Abraham. Borja Mayoral is the only other striker at his disposal.
It’s honestly hard to justify Tammy’s constant exclusion under Tuchel. At this moment, the best option would be to cut the losses and let him leave for another club. It remains to be seen if Roma and Mourinho are genuinely interested. If so, Chelsea should not hesitate to cash in.
