According to transfer news from Daily Star, Chelsea target Erling Haaland has been valued at £172million by Borussia Dortmund. The German side want to keep the striker for at least one more season and have slapped such an enormous valuation on him.
The Norwegian hitman has taken Europe by storm with his goal-scoring exploits for RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund. In 59 outings for the latter, he has scored 57 goals. Chelsea have held an interest in the player for a while now as they try to add a striker to their ranks for next season.
It looked as if Haaland was surely heading for the exit. But with Dortmund’s Champions League qualification ensured for next season, there is a chance that he remains in Westfalenstadion. Whatever be the case, it is expected that clubs like Chelsea and both Manchester sides go after him.
To counter those clubs, it has been reported that Dortmund will be accepting bids higher than £172million. It is an effort from the club to keep the Norwegian for one more season. Haaland has a £70million release clause that comes into effect in 2022 and he can leave then.
Addressing the elephant in the room, Chelsea have a real goalscoring problem on their hands. No player managed to get into double figures for goals this season in the league, with Jorginho being the top scorer with 7. Chelsea have flirted with a move for Haaland for a while now. However, given the enormous price tag, it’s hard to see any club going after him.
