Transfer News: Chelsea target Saul Niguez could be available at cut-price fee
As per a report by Spanish publication AS (h/t football.london), Atletico Madrid have given Chelsea transfer target, Saul Niguez, permission to leave the club.
Thomas Tuchel has been linked with a swoop for the Spanish international, and Atletico’s apparent willingness to part ways with their midfielder comes as a boost for the Blues.
It was previously thought that signing the Los Rojiblancos‘ midfielder would be difficult because of the 5 years left on his current contract and a release clause of £128m. But that could change now.
It is suggested that Diego Simeone could now part ways with Saul for a fee as low as £34.2m, which is way more affordable. This, according to the report, is due to a fresh cash injection of £156m into the club.
Better call Saul
That amount can be used to sign targets such as Rodrigo de Paul, and that could see Saul fall further down the pecking order at Wanda Metropolitano- making any potential deal to Chelsea a little easier. (h/t football.london)
At this price, a deal for Saul becomes enticing. The Blues already house big names in their midfield such as N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, as well as Mateo Kovacic.
But the 26-year-old would add considerable depth to Chelsea’s squad in multiple positions. He is capable of playing anywhere in central midfield, as well as on the flanks and even in defence.
With Chelsea targeting Premier League glory next season, a signing like Saul can take them to the next level. The quality in depth would matter considering Chelsea’s participation in four season-long cup competitions.

And with Saul, they can plug in multiple holes in their team. However, only time will tell if Atletico actually budge and put Saul for sale – and if Chelsea are on hand to take an advantage of the situation.
