According to Le10 Sport (h/t football.london), Real Madrid have joined the race for Chelsea transfer target, Jules Kounde, as they look to sign the defender in the summer.
Los Blancos appointed former Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti recently and the Italian wants Kounde at Santiago Bernabeu as a ‘priority’ signing. The report also adds that Kounde has also been on Florentino Perez’s ‘radar’.
Kounde has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer, but Madrid’s interest can complicate the matters. However, his £68m asking price could be a stumbling block for Madrid.
In that case, the report mentions that Madrid have Villarreal’s Pau Torres on their wishlist. Chelsea fans would hope that this is the case for Madrid as Kounde is one of the most exciting centre-backs in La Liga.
The Blues already have five centre-backs to choose from. Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Kurt Zouma, Thiago Silva, and Antonio Rudiger make up the defensive roster for Thomas Tuchel.
Fikayo Tomori is close to joining AC Milan on a permanent transfer while Silva’s stay at Stamford Bridge has been extended by a year. And amid this, the German manager wants Kounde at Chelsea for next season.
Speaking recently (h/t football.london), the 22-year-old already gave his verdict regarding a possible transfer in the summer window.
“Regarding my future, it is certain that I will perhaps have to change clubs this summer, but nothing has been finalised yet, I have not decided anything. My goal is to play in a big club to try to always progress and to win trophies. I might have to move, but that’s not relevant today.”
It remains to be seen where the Frenchman ends up but the Blues should expect some serious competition from Madrid for the defender.
