According to transfer news from Sport Witness, Matt Miazga is set for a return to Chelsea. Anderlecht have ruled out another loan or permanent deal citing lack of resources. That will mean the American international will head back to Cobham over the summer.
Miazga joined Chelsea more than five years ago in January 2016. However, he has been out on repeated loan spells to various clubs like Vitesse Arnhem, Nantes and Reading. Even after impressing in the Championship last season, Chelsea sent him on loan to Anderlecht, who are managed by former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany.
The American has flourished under his guidance, playing 33 games this term. Miazga spoke about how his future was away from Chelsea and wanted to remain at the Belgian side. It seems that might not be happening.
Miazga will not be returning to Anderlecht on another loan or permanent transfer after the club ruled it out. While a loan deal might have had a slight possibility, a permanent transfer has been deemed too costly for them. They are likely to go after other signings now as Miazga will return to Chelsea at the end of the month.
Miazga still has a year left on his Chelsea contract after last season. With Anderlecht now ruling out a move for him, Chelsea will now have to find another suitor for the American. Chelsea already have a decent contingent of defenders. Clearly, Miazga does not have a future at the club and a departure will benefit all parties.
