PL rivals preparing to launch £40m offer for out-of-favour Chelsea star

Chelsea Transfer News: Aston Villa ready £40m offer for Tammy Abraham

According to transfer news from the Mirror, Chelsea could be braced for a big-money offer for one of their stars with Aston Villa readying a £40m bid for Tammy Abraham.

The 23-year-old striker came through the youth ranks at Chelsea but got a first-team shot only in the 2019/20 campaign, after loan spells away at Bristol City, Swansea City and Aston Villa. Abraham made the most of his chance under then-manager Frank Lampard to become the first-choice but lost his place to Olivier Giroud.

Following the arrival of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in the summer of last year, Abraham’s game-time took a further hit. And once Thomas Tuchel took over the reins in January, the England international became pretty much of an afterthought as he was constantly dropped from matchday squads even when fit and available.

Despite all this, Abraham managed to finish the season as Chelsea’s joint top-scorer across all competitions, albeit with just 12 goals to his name. Nevertheless, with Chelsea in the market for another centre-forward this summer, the Blues’ academy man looks set to be on his way out, with Aston Villa registering an interest.

Abraham played a major role in Villa returning to the Premier League with his performances in the 2018/19 season in the Championship. The striker remains a popular figure among the fans at Villa Park while manager Dean Smith would also be ready to welcome him back with open arms, the report adds.

To that end, the West Midlands’ outfit is preparing to offer £40m to try and secure Abraham’s services this summer. The report also mentions that funds are unlikely to be a problem for Aston Villa, with captain Jack Grealish likely to be on his way to Manchester City in a mega-money deal in the summer.

More Chelsea News:

As things stand, Abraham has no future at Chelsea under Tuchel. And, although the likes of West Ham United and Crystal Palace have been credited with an interest, Aston Villa could be the best-placed to land the striker, who is also said to be open to a return to the West Midlands’ club.
